Application of MRI-based Scalp Acupuncture with Dr Poney Chiang
Dr Poney Chiang presents his MRI research correlating scalp acupoints with functional areas of the cerebral cortex, and what that scalp-to-cortex map means for how scalp needling is performed. Hosted by Dr Scott Ling. Presented live on 26 February 2023.
10:00 – 11:00 AM AEST
Is This Webinar For You?
Dr Poney Chiang conducted MRI research correlating scalp acupoints with distinct functional areas of the cerebral cortex. This session presented that scalp-to-cortex relationship and its direct implications for how scalp needling is performed.
Through case studies, Dr Chiang discussed how a Neuro-Meridian approach engages the central nervous system, why he considers the WHO/Jiao scalp homunculus for the arm and face areas to be inaccurate, and how his scalp mapping informs work with oculo-motor presentations.
The webinar was conducted in English and closed with a live Q&A.
What This Webinar Covered
An MRI-verified Scalp Map
How Dr Chiang's MRI research correlates scalp acupoints with functional areas of the cerebral cortex.
Engaging the CNS
How a Neuro-Meridian approach to scalp Acupuncture is used to stimulate the central nervous system, illustrated through case studies.
Rethinking the Homunculus
Why Dr Chiang considers the WHO/Jiao scalp homunculus for the arm and face areas to be inaccurate.
Oculo-motor Presentations
How his scalp mapping informs work with oculo-motor disorders.
Case Studies
Discussion of cases including Graves' disease, cerebral palsy, and primary orthostatic tremor, plus a neuro-auricular Acupuncture example.
Live Q&A with Dr Chiang
An open session to explore the research and its clinical application.
